Job Title: Cloud Operations & Observability Engineer
Department: Infrastructure Cloud Services
Type: Contract – 6 months

Position Summary

The Cloud Operations & Observability Engineer supports Azure observability, monitoring, automation, and security platforms, including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Microsoft Sentinel, and related Azure infrastructure. This role partners with Infrastructure Cloud Services and Cybersecurity to deploy, administer, optimize, and transition these platforms into reliable operational support, while Cybersecurity retains ownership of security governance, threat monitoring, and incident response.

Primary Responsibilities

Azure Observability Platform Administration

• Administer Azure Monitor, Log Analytics Workspaces, Application Insights, Workbooks, and related monitoring services.
• Support Microsoft Sentinel deployment, configuration, administration, and lifecycle activities.
• Manage diagnostic settings, monitoring configurations, and telemetry collection.
• Monitor ingestion of health and service performance data.

Security Platform Support

• Administer Sentinel connectors, integrations, DCRs, and DCEs.
• Enable Security Operations reporting, monitoring, and visibility requirements.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity to implement monitoring and detection platform capabilities.
• Support ongoing ISO-27001 remediation initiatives and related cybersecurity platform requirements.

Operational Support

• Troubleshoot Azure monitoring and observability platform issues.
• Support platform health monitoring and service availability.
• Investigate ingestion failures, connector issues, and configuration problems.
• Participate in incident, change, problem, and service request activities.

Operational Readiness & Service Transition

• Develop and maintain runbooks, support documentation, knowledge articles, and standard operating procedures.
• Establish monitoring, escalation, support, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness processes for newly implemented services.
• Partner with Infrastructure Cloud Services leadership to develop sustainable operational support models.
• Transition services into managed operations and future MSP support.
• Participate in knowledge transfer and operational readiness activities.

Governance & Optimization

• Support Azure RBAC, Azure Policy, and least-privilege governance requirements.
• Develop and recommend governance standards, monitoring practices, and operational controls.
• Recommend governance, observability, security, and supportability improvements.
• Optimize Log Analytics data lifecycle, retention policies, service utilization, and platform costs.
• Support audit, compliance, and security review activities.
• Infrastructure Cloud Services leadership retains final approval for governance standards, operating processes, architecture changes, and platform direction.

Technical Skills – Preferred

• Defender for Cloud
• Logic Apps
• Azure DevOps (IaC using ARM Templates, Bicep or Terraform)
• Jira Cloud for Agile Scrum/Kanban work tracking
• Security monitoring platforms
• ITIL practices

Experience Requirements – Required

• Experience administering and supporting Microsoft Sentinel and Log Analytics.
• Experience using KQL to build and troubleshoot queries, workbooks, dashboards, analytics, and data validation.
• Experience supporting enterprise monitoring, observability, production systems, or operational support platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure, monitoring, or platform-related issues.
• Experience working within structured support processes, including incident, problem, change, and service request management.
• Experience collaborating across technical teams and stakeholders to deliver platform support and enhancements.

Experience Requirements – Preferred

• Experience developing operational automation solutions.
• Experience working in managed services environments.
• Experience supporting security-related technologies, compliance, audit, or remediation initiatives.
• Experience operating within ITIL-based service management environments
