Software Developer: IV (Lead) – EPIC
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Software Developer with deep expertise in EPIC healthcare systems and AI technologies. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced software solutions within the EPIC platform, leveraging your extensive knowledge of healthcare and cloud architecture. Your work will directly contribute to transforming healthcare applications through cutting-edge AI integration, ensuring seamless, secure, and scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow the company’s software development lifecycle to design, code, configure, test, debug, and document system and application programs aligned with healthcare standards.
- Assist in preparing detailed technical design specifications based on functional requirements and analysis documents.
- Review functional requirements, system designs, and analysis documents, providing valuable feedback to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary development teams through architecture, design, and code reviews to maintain consistency and excellence.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive operational and system-level documentation to support ongoing maintenance and enhancements.
- Lead architecture discussions, facilitate design strategies, and oversee the development tasks to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient cloud applications with a focus on distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and integration patterns, particularly in the healthcare domain.
- Drive initiatives related to cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP, emphasizing Infrastructure as Code with tools like Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
- Lead the development and implementation of automated CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab.
- Oversee containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations.
- Manage relational and distributed data platforms like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and Databricks, ensuring data architecture supports performance and scalability.
- Implement observability, security, and operational resilience measures, utilizing tools like Grafana, Azure Log Analytics, and OpenTelemetry.
- Leverage Generative AI tools to enhance coding, troubleshooting, documentation, and solution development, emphasizing productivity and architectural integrity.
- Maintain end-to-end ownership of product architecture and features, balancing rapid AI-driven development with sustainable, high-quality engineering practices.
- Collaborate with clinical and product teams to ensure AI solutions are seamlessly integrated within EPIC for optimal user experience.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in software development, with a focus on healthcare IT and EPIC systems.
- Proven expertise in designing scalable, secure, and resilient cloud applications, preferably on Microsoft Azure; AWS or GCP experience is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of Epic healthcare platform technologies, specifically recent hands-on experience with solutions like Clarity Data Model, Clinical Data Model, Cogito, and Caboodle Data Model.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of guiding multiple resource layers and complex project components.
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
- Proficiency in modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and integration architectures.
- Hands-on experience with relational and distributed data technologies like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and Databricks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of observability, security, and operational best practices in cloud environments.
- Ability to actively incorporate Generative AI tools into development workflows to enhance productivity, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
Nice to Have Skills
- Certifications such as Epic Clarity Data Model, Clinical Data Model, Cogito, or Caboodle Data Model.
- Experience with AI-powered healthcare solutions and integrating AI within EPIC workflows.
- Familiarity with additional cloud platforms like AWS or GCP beyond Azure.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Advanced degree (Master’s, Doctorate) in Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.
- Recognized Epic certifications related to recent healthcare technology projects, particularly in data models and clinical workflows.
- Proven track record of leading complex AI and cloud architecture initiatives within healthcare organizations.
Other Requirements
- Remote work flexibility, with ability to participate in virtual team meetings.
- No specific travel obligations; however, readiness to engage in remote collaboration and periodic client or stakeholder meetings is expected.
- Deep understanding of Epic system functionalities and recent practical experience is a must for success in this role.
